Why do we watch Harry Potter or charmed when we wouldn't want any physical witch or wizard in our house chanting mantras?

How often do we criticize pastors for preaching too much about Pentecost, Lent, Easter, Christmas and not enough about day to day living?
How many of us sleep during prayer time?
How many of us sleep during sermons?
How many of us actually like going for prayer meetings?
How many of us prefer the fellowship rather than the message?
Do we take the worship team practice as just another regular jam session?
Why do we promote our businesses in the temple of God?
How often do we criticize the PA team for equipment that isn't working properly during service?

Important questions, and by no means an all inclusive list. There are millions of hypocrisies in all of us, followers of G-d or not. I think it all comes down to not being able to control our own thoughts. I suppose i could bring up the are we humans just more complicated and less reliable computers, with functions and reactions based on the data we have available to us, debate! But that would never end, so i'll just mention it in passing !
Still we don't really choose our thoughts, or are feelings. Nobody says I want to be depressed, yet they are, people have morals that are all very well hypothetically, but in reality, they don't want to adhere to.
What is your view on Harry Potter, is it demonic, as the source of magical power or is it merely fiction, and does not matter being fantasy?
Why do we preach equality and open mindedness, when we have preconcieved notions of each gender, and alot of races, and even the peole around us?
Why do we try to change our thoughts to more desirable ones when they are beyond our control?
What happens when our morals are blasphemy to somebody elses?
Can you condemn someones opinions when they cannot help them?
Why do we condemn all paedophiles, and not all gays? (I'm not suggesting this)
People are despicably simple in some respects. Most in a friendship want as many ego trips given to them as possible, for the least effort, even as they deny it. We follow morals, because those around us do, we copy those around us, we don't do what they won't do, just to fit in. Why don't we think? Even those of us who constantly analyze and question still step into many boxes only avoiding the most obvious.

Nice to hear from you... oh yes, I penned that list more to be addressed to believers of Jesus Christ and not all inclusive at all... anyway... This is what I believe... Again you don't have to believe it, I'm just giving an explanation on what I believe...
I believe that when God created man he designed man to live forever... a perfect God, a perfect world, a perfect relationship between man and God...
But since Adam sinned, took the forbidden fruit and disobeyed God, sin and death entered the world... (Genesis 3 - story about the temptation and fall of man) when we die, our body is left, where does the soul go? that was meant to be rhetorical...
anyway, you're right in saying that we cannot control our thoughts... we are merely fallen creatures in a fallen world and we can't change human nature... But the good news I believe is that Jesus died for our sins so we could be forgiven because he loves us... and Jesus is not only loving, he is also all-powerful and I believe He's the one true and living God who is able to change human nature... The apostle Paul sums it up in the book of Romans where he gives us the solution. (Romans 13:14) "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof."
Paul knows that the flesh is always going strive against the spirit, and that we have to make a conscius effort to aspire to God's holiness, and that we do this by letting Jesus take control when most of the time our thoughts are beyond our control.
When people except Jesus into their hearts, they are justified by his blood (Romans 5:9) "much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from the wrath through him" Which means, we will no longer face God's wrath and judgement upon us
However, this is not a license to sin. And Paul tells us this again in (Romans 6:1-2) "what shall we say then? shall we continue to sin that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin live any longer therein?" We are justified by Jesus' blood but everyday we need to work on sanctifying ourselves. (Phillipians 2:12) "wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."
As for harry potter, I have no right to tell you what you should do, if your conviction is to watch it, then by all means do not let me stop you... But for me, I believe, that once I experience the forgiveness and mercy of Jesus
Christ and his love, I need show my gratitude and appreciation for him dying on the cross for me... how do I do this? (John 14:23) "Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him." that means, I have to show I love Jesus by keeping His commandments. And I have to remember that God's grace is for falling, not for jumping.
My view on harry potter is that they are depicting wizards on the screen and it is not good to put before my eyes. I go by (Leviticus 20:27) "A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon
them." and by (Psalm 101:3) "I shall put no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me"
My view on people (paedophiles, lesbians and gays) is that they are all loved by God, and they need God to change deliver them from the spirit which is on them... I believe a gay is not a man, it's a spirit on a man... But
when you have God it doesn't matter what's on you cause the bible says in 1 (John 4:4) "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" meaning that when you have Jesus, his power is greater than the prince of this world
I believe that people think, they just don't think well... I believe when people have Jesus, God will take care of the minds... (2 Timothy 1:7) "For God did not give us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Even God calls us to think when we worship him... (Mark 12:30) "and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment"
As it's 2am in the morning, I may have missed some points... Let me know if you have any more questions... Anyway, my commandment from God still remains the same, (John 13:34) "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." I guess why I want to share Jesus so much is because I don't want my friends to burn in hell for eternity... because hell is hot and eternity is a long time... the place where God made to destroy the devil and his demons... A hard message which isn't talked about everyday... but necessary if you want to know why so many Christians won't shut up... I am not a good person... I'm a sinner in need of the blood of Jesus Christ to cover my sins... God loves us and is still in the business or forgiving...
My heart is that my friends don't wait too long to accept the free gift he gave...

i notice you talk about the films... does that mean your okay with the books/some of the books? have you read any? Alot of the wizards and witches are born to witches and wizards, or people without magic (ie the mode of their existence is not something they chose), and the story itself quite a moral one, and some of the characters altruistic, some cruel, just like in reality... but does their power in the biblical view write them off inspite of their actions/their motivations?
That is to say, even if we say demons are demons are demons, and are easily capable of being misleading, is isolated footage of what is hypothetically demonic, doing good, okay? Does the power become irrelevant if something positive is being portrayed? or is the power and its source an over riding point that transcends further actions... a red card if you will
I do not deny that I have watched a harry potter film in my former days before commiting myself to live for Jesus Christ and defend the faith. I have not read any of the books but I thank God for forgiving me... anyway to answer your point...
I think that if the devil wants to deceive anyone, he's going to mix truth with a little bit of a lie... like in the garden of Eden where God said to Adam and Eve not to eat of the forbidden fruit... The serpent 1st created doubt by asking a question? undermining God's authority... Did God really say do not eat of the fruit? then he went on to mix the truth of God with a lie... You will not surely die... deception is a dangerous thing... rat poison is 99.9% good stuff but the 0.1% of poison kills the rat... another scenario I pose to you...
You have a glass of water, you can see the air bubbles in the glass clearly... when you aren't looking, someone spits in the glass... the bubbles from the spit balls look exactly the same as those bubbles in the glass of water... would you still drink the water if you knew the truth? :)
